WL11 Overview  

The WiFi-IT! module is a complete ultra-low power solution for communication on standard 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi networks. The WiFi-IT! provides an ideal solution for organizations with limited wireless expertise by removing the diffucultly of RF design, testing and certification.

Based on the GainSpan^® SoC, the WiFi-IT! is a single chip radio supporting data rates up to 11 Mbps. The WiFi-IT! has been designed for low-power, cost sensitive applications.

The WiFi-IT! module supports two embedded system use scenarios; first it easily connects and integrates with existing 8/16/32 bit microprocessors, through a serial port (UART or SPI). The WiFi-IT! handles all Wi-Fi and TCP/IP protocols, offloading the host processor. The host processor uses a simple, low overhead AT-type command protocol to communicate through the module to the wireless network. But the real power and cost savings of the WiFi-IT! becomes apparent when it is used as the stand-alone microprocessor in your embedded device! 

The WiFi-IT! module contains industry standard serial, analog and digital interfaces and its own onboard 32-bit ARM application processor, which is programmable using WiFi-Basic. Developing applications in WiFi-Basic is fast and easy! Low level operation of wireless and network communication has been abstracted into simple high-level functions. The fully Integrated Development Environment (IDE) features a Graphical User Interface (GUI) that generates your initialization and I/O configuration code automatically, a syntax highlighting editor, a Basic language compiler, a project manager and a debugger that supports wired or wireless operation. The WiFi-IT! development system enables OEM's to easily create wireless sensor-based control and monitoring solutions for today's wireless world!

You can purchase modules directly through our online store in single quantities or packs of five (5). All modules include a MAC address. These are raw modules ready to solder to your base board. To order additional modules that can be used with the WiFi-IT! EDK or EDK+ click here. 

To order WiFi-IT! modules that operate with WiFi-Basic and have the Run-Time Engine (RTE) installed, select Part Numbers that end in 'R'.

WiFi-IT! modules that do not end in 'R' are preloaded with the AT-command protocol for use with an external microprocessor. These modules can also be used with the GainSpan Professional Software Development Kit (SDK) to design and run highly custom applications.
